Formartine United U18's 9 Deveronvale U18's 1

October 12, 2023

Formartine’s Under 18’s secured another emphatic win on Thursday evening with a 9-1 victory over their Deveronvale counterparts.  In a dominant display Mitchel Watson stole the show with four of the goals, while Brody Alberts continued his fine goal scoring start to the season with a double with Brenden Beaton, captain Kooper Richardson and substitute Josh Davidson completing the rout.

It was the home side that were on the front foot from the onset.  Captain Kooper Richardson was fist to threaten the Deveroval goal when he rounded the keeper only to see his effort cleared by a Vale defender in the 4th minute, before Arran Paterson went close with an effort.  United did take the lead in the 13th minute when Brenden BEATON was played in by Arran Paterson at the edge of the box, with the midfielder calmly stroking the ball past the advancing keeper from ten yards.  Two minutes later Formartine doubled their lead with Mitchel WATSON capitalised on a quick Formartine throw by Brody Alberts down the left with the winger running in on goal and passing the ball past the keeper from a tight angle.

In the 22nd minute Formartine went three up after Buckle and Richardson powered through midfield, with the latter’s through ball allowing Brody ALBERTS to pressure the home defence, forcing a mix up between defender and keeper with the striker beating the recovering defender to the ball to tap home from 6 yards.  On 25 minutes it was four.  This time Kooper RICHARDSON collected the ball on the edge of the box, spun past two defenders before driving the ball across the keeper into the corner of the goal from twelve yards.

Just after the half hour mark it was five. Brenden Beaton’s deep cross from the left was headed back into the centre of the goal where Brody ALBERTS turned his defender and calmly stroked the ball past the advancing keeper from eight yards.  That 35th minute goal completed the scoring for the opening half, but there was no let up by United during the second period.

In the 48th minute a Beaton pass found Sam Thomson at the edge of the box, the full back’s found Alberts at the edge of the box where the striker left the ball for the advancing Mitchel WATSON to drill a low drive from 18 yards into the bottom corner of the goal.  Ten minutes later WATSON was on hand again after Richardson and Thomson worked their way down the right wing to find Beaton who’s deep cross to the far post found Watson drifting in from the wing to stroke the ball back across the goal for number seven.

In 63 minutes Vale got on the scoresheet with a consolation goal by Jack Sutherland when the winger drifted in at the back post unmarked from a deep Vale free kick to stroke the ball past Corbett in the Formartine goal.  Undeterred, Formartine continued to press and regained their advantage in with a 75th minute when WATSON set off after a through ball forty yards out, winning the race against the Vale defence and clipping the ball over the keeper from ten yards.  The scoring was completed in the 89th minute when a clever Beaton flick found substitute Josh DAVIDSON unmarked twelve yards out with the front man’s first time effort evading the Vale keeper.

Another emphatic win for Jim Beaton’s youngsters with three wins out of three this season taking the team to top of the Under 18 League East on goal difference from Inverurie Loco Works and Dyce.  Next up for the youngsters is a trip to play Hall Russell United on Monday 3rd of November 2023.  Please note that the game will be played at the Lawsondale Playing Fields at Westhill.
