Formartine United Invited to Expanded KDM Evolution Trophy

Formartine United is delighted to confirm that the club has accepted an invitation to participate in the expanded KDM Evolution Trophy for the 2026/27 season.

The SPFL today announced a new 40-club league phase format for the competition, which will see ten guest clubs from the Highland and Lowland Leagues join clubs from League 1, League 2 and Premiership B teams in the opening stage of the tournament.

Formartine United is one of ten invited clubs, alongside Banks o’ Dee, Berwick Rangers, Bonnyrigg Rose, Clachnacuddin, Clydebank, Cowdenbeath, Cumbernauld Colts, Fraserburgh and Gala Fairydean Rovers.

The competition has been expanded following the success of last season’s revamped format and will provide a valuable opportunity for clubs and players to compete against opposition from across the Scottish football pyramid.

Under the new structure, participating clubs will be split into four pots and will play six league phase matches. A single league table will determine the top 22 teams progressing to the knockout stages, with Championship clubs entering the competition at the Round of 32.

The tournament offers significant financial rewards, with a prize fund of more than £1.3 million and £150,000 available to the eventual winners.

The KDM Evolution Trophy league phase begins on 11/12 August 2026, with fixtures scheduled to be released on Thursday 16 July.

Everyone at Formartine United looks forward to taking part in this exciting competition and welcoming new opponents to North Lodge Park during the 2026/27 campaign.

Further details, including fixture information, will be published as soon as they become available.
